Turkish Capacity Utilization Declines 14.9 Points to 66.8 Percent in April

Turkey’s capacity utilization in the manufacturing sector fell 14.9 points to 66.8 percent in April, compared with the same month of 2008, according to official data released on May 11. The April number, however, represent a slight improvement over the previous month when capacity utilization for March stood at 64.7 percent. According to the results of the monthly tendency survey, the main reason for companies not working at full capacity in April was insufficient demand in both domestic, accounting for 55.4 percent, and international markets at 31.4 percent, TURKSTAT said.

The modest up-tick from a record low of 63.8 percent in January and February may be a sign that Turkey `s steep economic downturn is mediating.
