Turkish unemployment rate drops slightly

Turkey’s unemployment rate stood at 14.9 percent in April, a slight decrease compared to the 15.8 percent recorded in March. The Turkish economy contracted 13.8 percent in the first three months of this year after shrinking 6.2 percent in the last quarter of 2008.

Seasonally adjusted, the April unemployment rate was virtually flat when compared with March. Unemployment is a lagging indicator.
