Turkish commandos capture five pirates off Somalia, military says

Turkish navy commandos captured five pirates on August 11 as part of an international mission to curb piracy off the coast of Somalia, the military said. The Turkish frigate TCG Gaziantep, taking part in a NATO mission, raided the pirates’ skiff on suspicion that they were preparing for attacks, the military said in a statement. “A possible ship hijacking has been prevented,” the military said, adding that equipment used in piracy was found on the skiff.

The Turkish Navy continues to achieve some measures of success in combating piracy off the Somali coast as part of a NATO initiative.
