PM Erdoğan to shuttle between Tehran, Washington

According to the Turkish media, Prime Minister Erdogan told journalists on the trip back from Iraq that he had received an invitation from U.S. President Obama to visit Washington on October 29 following talks in the Iranian capital of Tehran. “I received the invitation [from Obama] today,” Erdoğan said. “We’ve been working on alternative dates. If we fix October 29, we will proceed to the United States from Iran.”

Turkey has repeatedly expressed its readiness to contribute to a constructive dialog between Iran and the United States. Neither of the sides, however, has asked Turkey to play such a mediation role. Not just Iran but Turkey’s regional relations with Armenia, Israel, Iraq and Cyprus could easily part of the agenda.
