Turkey needs a new powerful vision in foreign policy, FM Davutoglu

FM Davutoglu told a conference of Turkish ambassadors worldwide, meeting in Ankara, that Turkey needs a new and a more powerful foreign policy. Turkish diplomacy, he said, must get prepared for “a country which has become a member of the European Union in 2023, is ranked among the top ten economies in the world, and most importantly, a country, which has made its unique national contribution to the global culture.” Turkey, Davutoğlu said, must be prepared to deal with problems using both “hard power” and “soft power.”

FM Davutoglu is credited with attaching a strategic vision to Turkey’s ambitious foreign policy. As evidence, he announced that Turkey would open 26 more missions abroad in 2010.
