Turkey and Russia offer opportunities for each other, PM Erdogan

Turkish Prime Minister said January 13 that Turkey and Russia offered many opportunities for each other. Delivering a speech at a conference on “Turkey’s foreign policy,” Erdogan said the Turkish government built its foreign policy on “winning and making friends” adding that the Turkish government’s initial step with this objective was settlement of peace with all neighboring countries, indicating that the target had been achieved. PM Putin said at the joint press conference with PM Erdogan that he proposed a three-party agreement among Turkey, Italy and Russia on pipeline projects from Russia to Western Europe.

PM Erdogan held talks with Putin and President Medvedev January 13 during his visit to Moscow. While most discussion focused on oil pipelines, Erdogan was also expected to propose scrapping the visa regime between the two countries as part of what looks like Ankara’s new strategy of “visa diplomacy.”
