President of ATC views Armenian Resolution as likely to fail in the full House

ATC President, Ambassador James Holmes, meeting in Turkey on March 8, described the Armenian Resolution that passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee on March 4 by a single vote, as likely to fail in the full House. “The Resolution was approved by the committee with the narrowest possible margin, and has no political credibility…House leaders will clearly see they cannot be successful on the House floor,” Holmes stated. Holmes described President Obama’s upcoming April 24 Armenian Remembrance Day statement as the “next benchmark” on the issue, he added.

Holmes further criticized the Resolution’s passage, stating it reflected local political concerns and a complete lack of “strategic vision”. Additionally, Holmes urged the Turks to keep perspective, reiterating that the Resolution has only passed the committee and is non-binding.
