Turkish Navy to buy large landing ship for overseas mission

The Turkish Navy announced its preparation to buy its first Landing Platform Dock (LPD) ship that will be capable of transporting eight helicopters, 1,000 men, 81 armored vehicles, 13 tanks and three unmanned aerial vehicles on March 29. The estimated cost for the ship is $500 million. SSM, Turkey’s Defense Procurement Agency, stated that the contractors will primarily be domestic firms, but foreign partnerships will be necessary due to technology transfers.

The LPD is part of a modernization effort in the Turkish Navy.
