Turkish Minister: Exports Up In First Week of April

Turkish State Minister for Foreign Trade Zafer Caglayan said April 9 that the nation’s exports increased in the first week of April and that Turkey is expecting 11 percent growth in the economy in the first quarter of 2010. He expressed the belief that Turkey’s export figure would reach $115 billion by the end of 2010. “Turkey made $32.7 billion [in] service exports and $16.5 [billion] service imports in 2009. Turkey has been advancing to become a leading service exporter in the world,” Caglayan said.

The increase in exports and the recent success of Turkey’s service industry are welcome news for the Turkish economy, which is rapidly recovering from the economic crisis of 2008-09.
