Turkey has political will on nuclear issue, energy minister says

Turkish Minister of Energy Yildiz said May 13 that Turkey has the political will to achieve its goal for the nuclear power plant issue. Pointing to the agreement signed by Turkey and Russia on the construction of a nuclear power plant, Yildiz said establishing such a plant was a long-term process with many details. Yildiz said the process would take nearly 70 years, including the licensing, construction, operation and demolition of the power plant. “Therefore, obstacles and rise and falls to be faced during this process should not confuse us,” he said. “Turkey has the political will to achieve this goal.”

Stay tuned: issues of design and safety, financing, power production  pricing and the inevitable court challenges remain to be resolved.
