Kurdish administration in northern Iraq condemns PKK attack

The Regional Kurdish Administration in northern Iraq has strongly condemned the deadly terrorist attacks carried out by the PKK in southeastern Turkey over the weekend. “We are stating it clearly that this attack is not serving the Kurdish cause. To the contrary, it is blocking the peaceful paths that are necessary for a solution to this problem,” said the statement, which was released June 23 on the website of the Peyamner News Agency, a Kurdish news agency based in northern Iraq. Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoğlu has praised Iraq’s cooperation with Turkey against terrorism amid a surge in attacks on military targets by PKK. “We will separate those who stand in solidarity against terrorism and those who fail to fulfill their responsibilities in this regard. But there is solidarity on the part of Iraq on this matter,” Davutoğlu told reporters.

Positive statements from Northern Iraq raise hopes for the stability in the region, despite the increase in PKK violence. Increasing cooperation among Iraq, Turkey and the US would assist Turkey`s fight against terrorism.
