NATO offers Turkey another year as Kabul Regional Command

NATO has asked Turkey to take over the Kabul Regional Command mission for one more year in Afghanistan. Turkey is assessing whether or not to accept. According to private news channel NTV, the NATO senior civilian representative in Afghanistan made the offer during his visit to Ankara this week. Turkish officials are taking the proposal into consideration and the General Staff is assessing the offer.

Turkey does not deploy combat forces to Afghanistan but has provided the Kabul Headquarters Command and security for the ISAF for the past year. Turkey welcomes this arrangement and is likely to agree to continue.
