Turkey summons US envoy over UN flotilla probe

Turkey summoned the U.S. Charge d’affaires to the MFA to complain about what it saw as an attempt to define the mandate of a U.N. probe on Israel’s deadly raid on Gaza-bound aid ships, a Turkish diplomat said August 4. According to an MFA source, Charge Doug Silliman was called to the Foreign Ministry on Monday “for a reprimand.”

Turkey’s objection is apparently based on comments made by US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice, which the Turks interpreted as an attempt by the U.S. to limit the duties and mandate of the UNSYG’s four-member commission.
