Turkey has sufficient wheat supplies, board says

According to the government’s grain board, Turkey has “sufficient” supplies of wheat to meet domestic demand. The board estimates that Turkey’s wheat production for 2010 will be “at least” 19 million metric tons, well in excess of the 17.5 million tons estimate last month by the International Grains Council in London.

Turkey’s wheat crop has not been affected by the drought that restricted Russian wheat this year. In the face of an expected surplus, the board said it will take, all measures, including intervening in the market, to keep domestic wheat prices stable.
