Energy Ministry reforms mining license acquisition

Regulations regarding the distribution of mining exploration licenses have been modified by the Energy Ministry in a bid to curb speculators’ attempts to bypass safety protocols, with applicants now required to pass three stages before being granted licenses. In response to the numerous recent catastrophic mining accidents, the Energy Ministry is attempting to address the problem of land speculators who, having obtained an exploration license, fail to maintain safety standards on site.

Turkey’s mining industry is thriving and diversified due to Turkey’s varied geology, but has suffered due to speculators who inhabit land without investing in mining operations. The changes to mining licensing are expected to increase the safety of Turkish mining operations and improve the quality of mining explorations.
