Turkey has intelligence concerns after US withdrawal from Iraq

At a security summit in Ankara on September 19, Turkish officials resolved to prevent the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) from gaining momentum by boosting Turkish intelligence operations in semi-autonomous northern Iraq. The move comes following the US’s withdrawal of combat troops from Iraq last month.

The Turkish government and military is worried that a security gap will emerge with the American withdrawal, enlarging the area in Northern Iraq from which the PKK can operate.
