Turkey, U.S., to strengthen a ‘Model partnership’

Turkish Foreign Trade Minister Caglayan told the media on October 5 that he will be working to strengthen the US Turkey ‘model partnership’ on his up- coming trip to Washington and New York. This includes the formation of a new business council and development of the Framework for Strategic Economic and Commercial Cooperation (FSECC) announced last December by President Obama and Prime Minister Erdogan. Caglayan said he will also be campaigning for a free trade agreement with the U.S.

Bilateral trade for 2009 stood at $10.8 billion. Both nations agree that this is an inadequate commercial relationship and needs to be enlarged and elevated.
