Revised national security document approved by Turkish Cabinet

Changes to Turkey’s National Security Document, a secret defense-policy dossier that includes internal and external threats to national security, were approved on Nov. 22 at a Cabinet meeting. The Turkish media previously reported that the revisions to the document, also known as the “Red Book,” would include removing Russia, Iran, Iraq and Greece from a list of countries considered threats to national security.

Previous “Red Book” documents have been authored by the Turkish military and subsequently endorsed by theNational Security Council and Cabinet. This version is the first authored by Turkey’s civilian leadership.
