US not concerned about Turkey’s trade with Iran, State Department says

Turkey’s trade with Iran does not contradict the United States’ efforts to isolate the Islamic republic, the U.S. Department of State said December 8. Philip Crowley, State Department Spokesman, told a daily press briefing that there were special categories under U.N. Security Council Resolution 1929 regarding sanctions on Iran that were prohibited and Turkey had clearly indicated publicly that it would abide by its international obligations. Commenting on Turkey’s hosting of the next round of talks between the P5+1 and Iran, Crowley said the U.S. had indicated a willingness for Turkey to host the meeting in Istanbul in January.

Although Turkey voted in opposition to U.N. sanctions on Iran, it is committed to abiding by U.N. Security Council Resolution 1929. There have been no charges or indications that Turkey is not in compliance with the U.N. Sanctions.
