New model US-Turkey business council to meet in early March

According to the Turkish media, the newly established U.S.-Turkey Business Council will hold its first meeting in early March in Washington, D.C. as part of an effort to boost trade volume, which has remained virtually unchanged for years. The U.S. and Turkey established a new model of a joint business council in late 2010 under the framework of the “model partnership” concept between the two states. The new model is headed by Zafer Caglayan, Minister for Foreign Trade, and Ali Babacan, Minister of State in charge of the economy.

Despite the media report, it is not at all clear that the Turkish representatives to the Council will be named soon and that the Council will meet in “early March.”
