Turkey: Attacks, killings in Misrata must stop at once

Attacks leading to civilian casualties in Libya, particularly those targeting the rebel-held city of Misrata, should immediately end, Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoğlu said on April 18 in Ankara. Speaking at a joint press conference following talks with visiting Norwegian FM Jonas Store, Davutoğlu noted that restoring the humanitarian situation, preventing attacks against civilians and building a permanent solution are Turkey’s priorities for Libya. Davutoğlu said, “NATO should also exert all necessary efforts to achieve an end to civilian casualties.”

Libyan rebels and some critics within NATO have changed Turkey with but faint-hearted support for the rebels and hesitancy in its criticism of the pro- Gaddafi forces. Davutoglu’s April 18 remarks place Turkey firmly within NATO’s parameters.
