Turkey’s jobless rate at 10.6 percent

Turkish Statistical Institute data showed October 15 that Turkey’s unemployment rate fell to 10.6 percent in the three months to the end of August from 12.8 percent in the same period last year. On a month-to-month basis, however, there was a small increase from 10.5 percent to 10.6 percent. .

The month-to-month increase is due mostly to seasonal factors. Some experts believe Turkey’s natural rate of unemployment, beyond which there would be accelerating inflation, is approximately 11 percent.
